MIX AND MATCH:

Once you’ve taken your first step, it’s ideal to add in another element. For example, if you’re taking lessons, try sharing your new skills in a fun group workshop. If you’ve been working on your own using the book or the online program, try getting some live feedback by taking a private Skype lesson. Each of these approaches complements the others. When you mix and match, you grow your abilities, your confidence and your joy!

PRIVATE SINGING LESSONS
(IN PERSON OR VIA SKYPE OR FACETIME)

It’s wonderful to have the personal feedback and nurturing of private lessons as you learn. For some people this is the perfect first step.

We start by discussing your goals, (which might be as humble as having more fun when you sing in the shower, or as bold as singing lead in a band!) and discover together how to best get you there. You’ll get the individual support you need, customized just for you. It’s an intuitive, organic process and often leads to surprising revelations that reach beyond singing — because singing is so fundamental and personal, when you grow in this area you tend to grow in other ways as well!

If you like the idea of a one-on-one lesson, or would like to attend workshops but are hesitant to jump right into a group experience, just contact me to set up your first lesson or a free “get-acquainted” consult.

FEAR OF SINGING BREAKTHROUGH WORKSHOPS

For some people, attending a workshop is the perfect first step. Enjoy the affirmation of singing with other wonderful beginners like yourself in a supportive group. Or if you’re more experienced, rediscover the joy of group singing in a judgement-free environment.

Since I strive to meet the needs of the people in the room, every workshop is a little different. But we always include the following:

• Singing both new and familiar songs as a group
• Sharing our singing stories
• Learning to use your breath to support your voice
• Learning to hear and feel what it’s like to sing in tune with another voice
• Learning basic music theory as it applies to singing
• Exploring your unique voice through play and improvisation
• Individual time to address your areas of singing strengths and challenges

NOTE: If you like the idea of “hiding” a little bit behind other voices and blending in with a crowd, rather than starting out with one-on-one lessons, workshops might be a great way to jump in. You can always move on to lessons later if you’d like!

NOTE #2: If you’re in NYC, and have attended at least one Fear of Singing Breakthrough Workshop, you’re welcome to attend the ongoing Keep On Singing! Workshops.

I lead a workshop almost every month in either New England, New York City, and California. To see the schedule of upcoming workshops, visit the Workshops page.

THE 6-WEEK ONLINE FEAR OF SINGING BREAKTHROUGH PROGRAM

If you prefer learning on your own, can’t make it to a workshop, or are too busy for lessons, you might want to jump in via the 6-Week Online Program. You’ll get a link to your lessons each week, and can do them at whatever pace works for you. You get unlimited online access to the lessons, or you can download them and and keep them forever.

The cost of the online program includes one in-person or Skype lesson, and attendance to one 2-hour or 4-hour workshop. Purchasing the program is a great way to get a little taste of everything!

We start with the basics and move gradually through the fundamentals of learning how to sing: sustaining a long note, using breath support to support your singing, matching pitch (singing the same note you’re hearing), music theory basics for singing, singing with expression, getting in touch with your unique learning styles, discovering your natural voice, and more!

With life-long certainty I told Nancy I was tone-deaf
and within two minutes she had me matching a note she was singing. I was amazed and a little bit giddy!
Susan, Adult Singing Student
I thought I’d have to die and be reborn to do this!
Liza, Singing Student
Thank you so much for our singing session. That was something I will never forget. Until recently I would never have done that. ? It’s all about growing. You are doing such great things for others with your gift. Thank you for sharing.
April, Singing Student
I knew nothing about singing but I have found that I can do this. It feels so good to sing with other humans.

What People Are Saying —

“I just want to let you know how much I am enjoying the singing lessons. I haven’t had this much pure fun since I was in the third grade. It really is liberating for an old codger like me to just cut loose and make joyful noise like I did back then.”
– Brian, Adult Singing Student

“As a private lesson student with Nancy, with a lot of fear of singing, I found after just one session my confidence grow. I attended a birthday party, and when the candles on the cake were lit, I immediately led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday”! You have no idea what a big step this was for me!”
– Melanie, Workshop Participant and Private Student

“My mother, Charmian, called me this morning pretty euphoric. She said that she “finally felt free”. That she’d thought all her life that she was only capable of making a croaking sound but, instead, had heard herself sing one high note and one note in the middle that was really a tone. She’s always had fifth chakra issues, sore throats, laryngitis, power speaking, etc. This week, when she goes to her meditation meeting, she’ll join in the ‘oohming’ part for the first time.

She said that the workshop ‘changed her life’ after 94 years of being shut down/out.

This was an enormous breakthrough for her. Your program was so well structured and led with such enthusiasm and joy. Congratulations to you. What a gift for everyone there.” With gratitude,”
– Cathy (Daughter of 94 year old workshop participant!)

“The lessons made me feel a lot more comfortable with my voice, and singing in front of people. Also, I think that I’m better at staying on pitch, and getting the pitch right the first time. Plus lessons were just a lot of fun! I really enjoyed them! Thank you again. Hope to see you next summer!“
– Ruth, Teenage Singing Student

“It surprised me how easy it was most of the time, to let go and just sing and make sounds. One thing I really like about Nancy’s teaching is that she brings a straight forward can-do energy to the group, allowing for fears and nervousness but not focusing on those.”
– Workshop Participant
