A retreat participant requested we sing Space Captain — and he gave me enough of a heads up before the event that I had time to work on it.

I was familiar with the Joe Cocker version, which I loved but, really? Have you heard it? Where to start?! The way he does that song is magic but (listen to it! It’s the first video below) I couldn’t find a way in.

So I poked around on and found another version I really liked, and these guys were playing guitar and singing in a way I could learn from. (Second video)

Just to let you know that this is sometimes how it works — it’s part of the process of learning a new song. And also an excuse to share this song which I’ve fallen in love with!
